SUMMARY:Landon Mackenzie: Weather Patterns Exhibition Tours
DESCRIPTION:Exhibition Tours – Landon Mackenzie: Weather Patterns\nFriday\, September 25 at 1 PM Free. Drop-in  \nJoin gallery staff for a free\, drop-in tour of Landon Mackenzie: Weather Patterns.   \n \nABOUT THE EXHIBITION \nLandon Mackenzie: Weather Patterns   \nStarting in the shallow tidewaters of Cardigan Bay\, Prince Edward Island\, Landon Mackenzie’s Weather Pattern series (2021–) balances chance and control to envelop the viewer in the artist’s painted worlds. Looking at the dotted sandstone-inspired canvases\, you might see a charged nervous system\, a celestial body or the microcosm of a riverbed’s speckled surface. The depth of each painting reveals the linen canvas as a site-responsive material that soaks up its environment: saltwater\, sunshine\, wind\, rain\, dew and starry nights—all become foundational materials in Mackenzie’s works. Merging paint and weather\, the canvases evoke the intimate connection between internal and external landscapes. To begin this bi-coastal project\, Mackenzie first stapled the river-soaked linen to a wooden porch on Prince Edward Island\, where she applied a multitude of colours. The artist next rolled and shipped the work like a tapestry to her Vancouver studio\, where she responded to the transformed surface. Each of these large paintings was enlivened from its interaction with East Coast summer tides before coalescing in the artist’s West Coast studio.   \nSupported by the Audain Foundation.

SUMMARY:Theatrix Musical Theatre Academy: Voice for Musical Theatre
DESCRIPTION:THEATRIX MUSICAL THEATRE ACADEMY\nVoice for Musical Theatre\nWith Emily Canavan \n  \n\nVoice for Musical Theatre is a technique-based class designed for young performers who are ready to strengthen their singing and performance skills in a supportive\, collaborative environment. Students will develop healthy vocal technique through exercises focused on breath support\, tone\, resonance\, vocal stamina\, and safe singing practices\, while building the confidence to perform with authenticity and ease. They will also explore the art of storytelling through song\, learning to connect music to character\, communicate emotion\, and make intentional acting choices that bring performances to life. Throughout the year\, students will workshop both individual songs and ensemble numbers while developing skills in harmony\, musicality\, collaboration\, audition preparation\, song interpretation\, and stage presence. A mid-season showcase will take place Nov. 29\, with an end-of-year showcase on June 14.\n \n \n**Please note: This class is intended for students who already have a foundation in singing\, whether naturally or through previous training. While previous voice lessons or a formal audition are not required to enrol\, students must be able to sing in tune\, match pitch\, and keep a steady rhythm\, as the focus of this class is on developing vocal technique and performance skills rather than learning the fundamentals of singing.\n\n \nCLASS INFORMATION \n  \nWhen: Saturdays\, 12:00 – 1:30 from Oct 3 to June 14*\n \n*No class: Oct 10\, Dec 20\, Dec 27\, Jan 3\, Jan 10\, Feb 13\, Mar 13\, Mar 20\, Mar 27\, May 22\n \nLocation: Evergreen Cultural Centre\, Studio A\nAges: 10 – 14\nFee: $655\n \nRegister: Opens for registration July 31. This class is presented in partnership with the Evergreen Cultural Centre. SUMMARY:Music Series: John Reischman & the Jaybirds
DESCRIPTION:JOHN REISCHMAN & THE JAYBIRDS\nDoors 2:00PM | Concert 3:00PM\n \n  \nABOUT THE SHOW \nGrammy Award-winning mandolinist John Reischman and his twice-Juno nominated group The Jaybirds have been defining the sound of West-Coast acoustic music for almost 20 years.\n \nJohn often light-heartedly refers to The Jaybirds as a “gateway bluegrass band” – roots music with enough drive and energy to be true to the form\, but folky enough to be perfect for any audience. Big vocal harmonies and impeccable instrumental playing define this group\, fronted by a true mandolin legend.\n  \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nLike the powerful mandolinist and composer at its helm\, John Reischman and the Jaybirds fashion a stylish take on bluegrass that seamlessly blends original songs and instrumentals with Appalachian old-time music for a truly unique band sound. Now in their 20th year\, with seven acclaimed albums and two Juno nominations\, the Jaybirds are simultaneously innovative and unadorned\, sophisticated and stripped-down\, happily old-fashioned and 21st-century contemporary. \n  \n  \n\nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE!\nAdults: $48 | Seniors: $44 | Students: $19 \n  \nBOX OFFICE: 604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM

SUMMARY:Drawing in the Gallery
DESCRIPTION:DRAWING IN THE GALLERY \nYou are invited to draw in the gallery during this monthly Sunday session. This is an open drawing activity meant to encourage looking\, slowing down and spending time in the gallery space. Prompts may be offered\, but you are welcome to draw in any way that feels comfortable to you. There is no expectation to create a finished artwork. All drawings are welcome! No experience is necessary and supplies are provided.   \nBy donation. Pre-registration encouraged\, drop-ins welcome.Recommended for ages 16+. \n  \nABOUT THE EXHIBITIONS  \nLure  | June 6th – August 23rd \nFrom subsistence to livelihood\, from sport to ritual\, fishing links people from coast to coast to coast. This thematic group exhibition includes work by Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists across Canada with ties to the Pacific\, Arctic and Atlantic Oceans\, and the freshwater bodies that flow between. Together the artists explore the complex social and cultural significance of the ancient yet everyday activity of fishing. \n  \nLandon Mackenzie: Weather Patterns | September 5th – November 21st \nStarting in the shallow tidewaters of Cardigan Bay\, Prince Edward Island\, Landon Mackenzie’s Weather Pattern series (2020–) balances chance and control to envelop the viewer in the artist’s painted worlds. \n  \n\nREGISTER ONLINE OR AT THE BOX OFFICE:604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM \n  \n

Merging paint and weather\, the canvases evoke the intimate connection between internal and external landscapes. To begin this bi-coastalproject\, Mackenzie first stapled the river-soaked linen to a wooden porch on Prince Edward Island\, where she applied a multitude of colours. The artist next rolled and shipped the work like a tapestry to her Vancouver studio\, where she responded to the transformed surface. Each of these large paintings was enlivened from its interaction with East Coast summer tides before coalescing in the artist’s West Coast studio.
