Each class includes training in alignment\, rhythm\, and storytelling through movement\, as well as strategies to pick up choreography more quickly and perform it with clarity.\nIt’s a class that builds not just dance ability but total performance readiness\, helping students move with confidence in any production or audition. \nCLASS INFORMATION \nAge 10 – 13\nFriday Evenings\, April 17 – June 11 | 4 – 5:30PM\n$285/person | Save $35 when you bundle 2 or more Musical Theatre Academy classes! \nShowcase: Wednesday\, June 17 \n\n\nABOUT OUR EDUCATOR\n \nJuliana Marko is a performance artist from Trail BC. She started out in the competitive dance world\, and quickly realized her love for theatre when she attended Playhouse North School of Theatre in Calgary AB. Her love for the stage grew when she had the opportunity to train at Black Box Acting Studio in Chicago IL. Juliana has performed across stages in Calgary\, Chicago and the West Kootenays in dance\, musical theatre and solo performance. She has been teaching ballet\, tap\, jazz\, hip hop and musical theatre at Steps Dance Centre (her home dance studio) since 2010.  In 2013 Juliana co-founded Triple Threat Experience in Trail BC\, and has since directed 8 youth musicals. Juliana also co-founded Avant Garde Cabaret (an annual showcase of West Kootenay performing artists) where she was able to perform original work for 5 seasons. This is an open drawing activity meant to encourage looking\, slowing down and spending time in the gallery space. Pre-registration encouraged\, drop-ins welcome.\nRecommended for ages 16+. \n  \nABOUT THE EXHIBITIONS  \nKaren Zalamea: Every Surface is a Shrine | March 7th – May 24th \nThe Art Gallery at Evergreen is pleased to present Every Surface Is a Shrine\, which brings together a selection of photo-based works by Karen Zalamea that traces the shifting boundaries between material\, memory and place. Rooted in a critical exploration of photography’s expanded possibilities\, Zalamea’s practice reimagines the medium not only as an image-making tool but as a methodology of care\, labour and cultural inquiry. \nThis exhibition is part of the 2026 Capture Photography Festival Selected Exhibition Program. \n  \nLure  | June 6th – August 23rd  \nFrom subsistence to livelihood\, from sport to ritual\, fishing links people from coast to coast to coast. This thematic group exhibition includes work by Indigenous and non-Indigenous artists across Canada with ties to the Pacific\, Arctic and Atlantic Oceans\, and the freshwater bodies that flow between. Together the artists explore the complex social and cultural significance of the ancient yet everyday activity of fishing.

DESCRIPTION:OPEN AIR PERFORMANCE SERIES: ARGEL MONTE DE RAMOS\nFree Outdoor Performances Weekdays at 6PM\n \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nArgel Monte de Ramos (he/him) is a Filipino Canadian singer-songwriter\, actor\, playwright-producer\, and director based in Surrey\, BC\, known for emotionally grounded work and authentic storytelling. He holds a Bachelor of Performing Arts and a Musical Theatre Diploma from Capilano University.  \nHis work spans music\, theatre\, and film\, earning national and local recognition\, including Top 10 Finalist in CBC Music’s Searchlight\, the Excellence Award for a BIPOC Artist at the Fraser Valley Music Awards\, and R&B Artist of the Year (2025). In theatre\, he received an Ovation Award for Outstanding Ensemble Member Performance (2024)\, two BroadwayWorld Awards for Best Music Direction & Orchestra Performance and Best Performer in a Musical (2025)\, and a Leo Award nomination for Best Musical Score in film.  \nArgel is the co-founder of Momentum 180 Collective and the creator of The Parallel Project\, a workshop initiative developing original monologues by emerging IBPOC writers\, performed by IBPOC actors. They have also been busking in the Evergreen Open Air Series and the Dumpling Festival here at LaFarge for the past four years.  \nThey are very active in musical theatre as they had leading roles as Anna in Frozen High School Musical with Align\, Shrek with Royal City Musical Theatre\, Perry Elrich Gotta Sing Gotta Dance and Showstoppers and Sister Act in Theatre Under the Stars. DESCRIPTION:GYOTAKU: A JAPANESE FISH PRINTING WORKSHOP\nwith artist Paula Nishikawara\n \n$10 or pay what you can. Registration required. All ages welcome.  \n\nJoin Vancouver-based artist Paula Nishikawara for a hands-on gyotaku printmaking workshop! In this session\, you will learn about the traditional Japanese art of gyotaku\, a form of fish printing that captures the beauty and detail of marine life. You will create several of your own unique art prints using real fish\, washi (Japanese paper)\, and paint. Be prepared to see and touch real creatures from the ocean and memorialize them as an artwork while exploring a deeper connection to nature through observation and touch.  \n\n\nAll materials provided. Optional: bring your own fabric items (scarves\, bags\, shirts) to create wearable gyotaku art!  \n\n\nABOUT THE ARTIST\nPaula Nishikawara is an international artist based in Canada and Japan. Nishikawara engages in an experiential based art practise with themes of memory\, history\, culture and language. She often uses traditional Japanese techniques and materials; reinterpreting or redesigning to fit a new discourse in a new time. Her work is an antithesis in an increasingly digital world. Like him\, the music is equal parts Mexican and Canadian. Tom was born and raised in Mexico City\, and moved to Canada in his teens. In the mid-nineties he formed the Folk Roots band\, The Paperboys\, who have been touring world-wide for over 20 years. Tom has always dabbled in Latin music\, and in 2005 decided to immerse himself more into genre\, and started working on material for an album. In 2006 he was awarded a Canada Council Grant to study traditional Mexican Music in Veracruz\, Mexico. Tom spent his days learning the jarana (an 8 string guitar)\, and learning songs from the Son Jarocho repertoire. DESCRIPTION:OPEN AIR PERFORMANCE SERIES: KYLIE FOX\nFree Outdoor Performances Weekdays at 6PM\n \nABOUT THE ARTIST \n“Canadiana queen\, free-spirited songbird\, and tree hugging feminist\, Kylie Fox’s brand of Americana blends humour\, wit\, and 70s glitz to tell stories rooted in Canadian culture and sharply original observations of the world around her.  She’s inspired by the whimsy of artists like Jenny Lewis and Adrianne Lenker\, while being led by her deep love for the lyricism of Joni Mitchell and the empowering showmanship of Brandi Carlile.   \nWith her distinct voice\, two album releases\, and years of touring\, Fox has amassed a dedicated fanbase. DESCRIPTION:OPEN AIR PERFORMANCE SERIES: REBECCA ERIN CURTIS\nFree Outdoor Performances Weekdays at 6PM\n \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nRebecca Erin Curtis is a singer/songwriter currently residing in the Coquitlam area. Bouncing around North America as a young girl\, she found a home in performing in musical theatre. As of 2022\, she holds diplomas in Musical Theatre performance from both MacEwan University and Capilano University. Though she adores acting and dancing\, music has always been her true passion. On top of singing and tap-dancing\, she plays six instruments: the piano\, guitar\, ukulele\, clarinet\, trumpet and violin. Being raised on musicals and country music\, she values the storytelling aspect of songwriting. Inspired by artists such as Carole King\, Sara Bareilles\, The Band Perry\, and Taylor Swift\, she began writing songs at fourteen.  \nWhile attending Capilano University\, she was lucky enough to compose the songs for their production of The Penelopiad. Since graduating\, she has thrown herself back into writing\, songs and shows. In September\, she will be performing her cabaret\, UNPACKING: the art of telling a short story long\, at the Vancouver Fringe Festival. An artist who is open about her neurodivergent struggles\, she best connects with people through her written words. Throughout her art\, she strives to be honest\, thought-provoking\, but hopeful.
