SUMMARY:You're Just A Place That I Know
DESCRIPTION:YOU’RE JUST A PLACE THAT I KNOW \nBook\, Music\, and Lyrics by Adrian Glynn McMorranWith Marlene Ginader\, Chelsea Rose Winsby\, and Sally Zori \n  \nABOUT THE SHOW \n\n\n\nYou’re Just a Place That I Know is a remarkable theatrical concert based on his album of the same name. It traces the history of JUNO-nominated singer-songwriter Adrian Glynn McMorran McMorran’s Ukrainian grandparents\, who left their homeland during World War II to begin life anew in Montreal.  \n  \nThe show powerfully evokes questions of ancestry and generational connection through song and story\, both from McMorran and other members of the diverse 7-piece band\, while a multigenerational choir fills the stage.  \n  \nMcMorran leans into the details of his grandparents’ story\, from his 16-year-old grandmother being forced by Germans from her Carpathian village into indentured abour a thousand kilometers away to his grandfather folk-dancing to win cigarettes from impressed Allied soldiers in a refugee camp. But he realizes there was more to tell than just his own family’s narrative \n\n \n“Beautiful and moving”\, writes Jerry Wasserman of Vancouver Plays\, “.. a testament to Canada’s cultural mosaic.. I loved this show.”\n \n\n\n\n \n\n  \n\nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE!Adults: $59 | Seniors: $51 | Students: $19 \n  \nBOX OFFICE: 604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM

SUMMARY:Rehearsal Hall Sessions: Śṛṅgāra Lahiri {Ripples of Desire}
DESCRIPTION:ŚṚṄGĀRA LAHIRI\n{Ripples of Desire}\nAn Evening Of Bharatanatyam with Live Music\n\n \n\nABOUT THE SHOW\n\n\n\n\n\nŚṛṅgāra Lahiri {Ripples of Desire}: is an offering shaped by lineage\, rigor\, and deep practice. Anchored in the traditional format of a margam (a formalized sequence of choreographies)\, śṛṅgāra (erotic love) is explored as an inner unfolding where desire becomes a landscape for longing\, where devotion softens the body\, and intimacy reveals emotional architectures that are deeply human and quietly transcendent.\n \nThe compositions in this margam move through subtle shades of connection and separation\, restraint and surrender. Śṛṅgāra is carried in the body through rhythm and gesture\, culminating into spiritual expression. Through precise technique and sustained presence\, the dancer inhabits these emotional states with clarity and depth\, allowing tradition to breathe in the present.\n \nPerformed with live music\, the work unfolds as a dynamic exchange between dancer and musicians\, where rhythm\, melody\, and breath shape each moment in real time. This immediacy underscores Bharatanatyam as a living practice; historically grounded yet continuously renewed through embodiment.\n \nŚṛṅgāra Lahiri invites audiences into an experience that is at once intimate and expansive: a deeply rooted\, rigorously crafted\, and urgently contemporary articulation of Bharatanatyam in its full artistic vitality.\n\n\n \n\n\nABOUT THE COMPANY\n\n\n\n\n\n\n All Choreographies by A. Lakshmanaswamy\n \nDancer: Sujit Vaidya\n \nMusicians:\n \n– Mridangam (Percussion): Curtis Andrews\n \n– Nattuvangam (Vocal and Rhythmic percussion with cymbals): Arno Kamolika\n \n– Vocals: Sheema Balakrishnan\n \n– Violin: Shriram Rajagopalan\n \n\n \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE:\nAdult $29 | Students/Senior: $19 \nRecomended: Ages 14+ \nBOX OFFICE: 604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM

Bending and blending genres\, these musical shape shifters land somewhere between the re-imagined worlds of Béla Fleck\, Newgrass invader David Grisman and the legendary Yo Yo Ma!\n\nThey will be releasing “Retro”\, a treasure trove of Andrew’s signature tracks over the years with fresh arrangements and spirited trio interplay. From blazing bluegrass to new acoustic roots and mod-classical reinterpretations\, Retro shows that great music evolves through honouring its roots.\n  \n  \nABOUT THE ARTIST \nMando maestro Andrew Collins finds himself – through no actual fault of his own – at the epicentre of Canada’s burgeoning acoustic/roots music scene. He didn’t invent it – but he’s certainly been a contributor\, having co-founded seriously noteworthy Canadian bands like the Creaking Tree String Quartet\, the Foggy Hogtown Boys and\, more recently\, his namesake Trio. That’s not to mention the fact that this prolific\, robust performer – comfortable on mandolin\, fiddle\, guitar\, mandola and mandocello – composes\, produces\, arranges\, writes and teaches across multiple genres\, including a popular collision of folk\, jazz\, bluegrass\, celtic\, and classical. \n  \n  \n\nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE!\nAdults: $48 | Seniors: $44 | Students: $19 \n  \nBOX OFFICE: 604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM

DESCRIPTION:ENGLISH\nPresented by Blackout Art Society \nDirected by Amir N. Hosseini\nBy Sanaz Toossi \n  \nABOUT THE SHOW \nA 2023 Pulitzer Prize Winner for Drama\, English by Sanaz Toossi is a quietly powerful and deeply human play about four Iranian adults preparing for an English proficiency exam in a storefront classroom in Karaj near Tehran. As they navigate grammar rules and pronunciation exercises\, they also wrestle with the more profound implications of learning a language that represents new opportunities\, personal reinvention\, and\, for some\, a painful detachment from their identity and homeland. With warmth\, humour\, and insight\, the play explores themes of belonging\, cultural displacement\, and the sacrifices made in pursuit of a new life.\n \nABOUT THE BLACKOUT ART SOCIETY\nIn 2013\, Vancouver\, BC\, witnessed the inception of a unique theatrical force: Blackout Theatre. Initially emerging as an ad hoc theatre ensemble\, we passionately set our sights on creating socially aware and pioneering theatre experiences that resonated deeply with the Persian community. With the invaluable contributions of local Persian artists\, our first four years were marked by performances that echoed our cultural heritage and enlightened our audiences.\n \n\nSINGLE TICKETS ON SALE!\nAdults: $54 | Seniors: $47 | Students: $19 \nCONTENT WARNING\nThis play contains adult language. This play includes themes of prejudice\, discrimination and cultural displacement. \nBOX OFFICE: 604.927.6555 | Open Monday – Saturday\, 12 – 5PM
