May 23 | Capturing Light

Inspired by the exhibition Karen Zalamea

Step into the world of light, shadow, and discovery in this hands-on family art experience inspired by the work of Karen Zalamea. Through a guided gallery tour, families will explore how Zalamea uses photography and materials to reveal beauty in simple gestures and fleeting moments.

In the studio, you’ll experiment with image-making techniques that play with light and transparency, creating layered prints and cyanotype-inspired artworks that capture the wonder of seeing in new ways.

Led by a professional art instructor, this session invites families to slow down, look closely, and create together. Perfect for all ages, this workshop blends observation, creativity, and a touch of scientific curiosity to inspire your family’s own artistic experiments.

June 13 | Tides and Tales: Exploring Art, Water, and Story

Inspired by exhibition Lure

Bring the whole family for a creative journey inspired by the exhibition Lure! Together, we’ll discover how water connects people, places, and stories through a fun mix of gallery exploration and hands-on artmaking.

Families will look closely at artworks, share ideas, and create their own pieces inspired by the movement, color, and mystery of water. Led by an art instructor, this workshop encourages imagination, storytelling, and teamwork in a relaxed, welcoming setting.

ABOUT THE CURRENT GALLERY EXHIBITION

The Art Gallery at Evergreen is pleased to present Every Surface Is a Shrine, which brings together a selection of photo-based works by Karen Zalamea that traces the shifting boundaries between material, memory and place. Rooted in a critical exploration of photography’s expanded possibilities, Zalamea’s practice reimagines the medium not only as an image-making tool but as a methodology of care, labour and cultural inquiry.

This exhibition is part of the Capture Photography Festival 2026 Selected Exhibition Program
