Artist Landon Mackenzie and art historian Patrik Andersson will share a conversation on Mackenzie’s newest work, with a book signing and reception to follow. ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Landon Mackenzie
With a career spanning five decades, Landon Mackenzie is well known for her large-format paintings, which are exhibited widely and held in prestigious collections, including the National Gallery of Canada, Ottawa; Art Gallery of Ontario, Toronto; Vancouver Art Gallery; Montreal Museum of Fine Arts; and McMichael Canadian Art Collection, Vaughn, ON, among many others. Raised in Toronto, she studied art at the Nova Scotia College of Art in Halifax and Concordia University in Montreal. Her contribution to Canadian art has been recognized with the Queen Elizabeth II Golden and Diamond Jubilee Medals and the 2017 Governor General’s Award in Visual and Media Arts. Based in Vancouver, Mackenzie is a professor emerita at Emily Carr University of Art + Design. She is represented by Nicholas Metivier Gallery, Toronto.
Patrik Andersson
Patrik Andersson is Associate Professor in Critical + Cultural Studies at Emily Carr University of Art + Design in Vancouver. His teaching is informed by his freelance activities as an author, art critic and curator. He holds a PhD in Art History from the University of British Columbia, Vancouver, and since 1997 has operated the independent curatorial project Trapp (www.trappprojects.com). Published works include “Tim Gardner’s Photographic Paintings,” in Tim Gardner: The Full Story (Winnipeg Art Gallery, 2023); “Hitting the Nail on the Head: Rodney Graham’s Impressionist Game,” in Rodney Graham: That’s Not Me (BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, 2017); “Movement in Pontus Hulten’s Inner and Outer Space,” in Pontus Hulten and Moderna Museet: The Formative Years (Moderna Museet, 2017); and “Niki de Saint-Phalle’s Killing Game: Participation, Happenings and Theatre,” in Niki de Saint-Phalle (Guggenheim, Centre Georges Pompidou, 2015).
