ABOUT THE ARTIST

Pat Chessell is a Vancouver-based folk artist whose music blends Celtic tradition, roots storytelling, and contemporary songwriting into a sound that is both timeless and deeply personal. A Canadian Folk Music Award nominee for Traditional Singer of the Year, Chessell has built a reputation as a compelling live performer, known for his powerful rhythm guitar, warm stage presence, and ability to connect authentically with audiences. Born and raised in British Columbia with family roots in Ireland and Canada’s East Coast, Chessell’s music is shaped by a strong sense of place and history.

His songs often explore themes of heritage, working-class life, and the quiet resilience found in everyday people. Whether drawing on local North Shore stories or broader historical narratives, his writing carries a storyteller’s eye for detail and emotional honesty. Chessell has shared the stage with acclaimed artists such as Jim Byrnes, The Paperboys, and Sharon Shannon, and has performed at major events including Vancouver’s Canada Day celebrations, where he opened for Tegan and Sara. In 2024, he served as Artist in Residence for the City of North Vancouver, creating a body of work inspired by the region’s landscapes and stories. With a growing audience across Canada, Chessell continues to carve out a distinct voice in the folk world—one rooted in tradition, yet always reaching forward.
