HAIR HAIR EVERYWHERE
A Play Reading
By Sarv Star
ABOUT THE SHOW
Hair Hair Everywhere is a bold and heartfelt multigenerational play about a young queer Persian femme exploring her relationship with body hair through the lenses of culture, gender, family, and identity. Caught between personal desire and inherited beauty standards, she begins a journey toward understanding and self-acceptance.
Guided by her eyelash—mojeh—a gentle and mystical presence, she enters a surreal world where her body hair begins to speak. One by one, she hears her hair: her head hair, armpit hair, leg hair, and pubic hair, each representing a different part of her being.
Blending traditional rituals with imagined ones, the play creates a rich, sensory landscape where healing, storytelling, and embodiment intertwine. Through these ritual spaces, she not only learns to listen to herself, but also begins to recognize the echoes of her maternal lineage within her.
Her journey deepens when she meets a hairy ancestor from the 1800s, connecting her to a lineage when hairiness was being desired and celebrated.
With humor, vulnerability, and imagination, Hair Hair Everywhere invites audiences to reflect on their own relationships with their bodies. At its core, it is a story of reclaiming power, softening shame, and building a deeper connection to self, lineage, and community.
