(From 2024) Ballet Victoria’s The Gift is a 21st century updated family tradition with everything you expect from a ballet production. An original Christmas tale danced to the timeless score of the Nutcracker with humorous pantomime, beautiful costumes, magic and as always, surprises for the whole family. The score drives the imaginative choreography for the company dancers. We invite you come and enjoy the timeless tale guaranteed to warm your heart and spread holiday cheer. The Nutcracker is a Christmas classic that the whole family can enjoy. The Nutcracker dates back to 1892 at the Mariinksy theatre in Saint Petersburg. Originally choreographed by Marius Petipa and Lev Ivanov, with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky’s Nutcracker score, it has become a world-renowned holiday classic. The traditional ballet takes a trip to the ‘Land of Sweets’ where each sweet is represented by a different country around the world. The Nutcracker is still being performed seasonally by many ballet companies and continues to adapt to the modern world.

ABOUT THE ARTIST
Ballet Victoria, founded in 2002, is a boutique professional ballet company based in Victoria, British Columbia. The company typically features around 14 dancers and presents four productions each season. Its work is known for being technically demanding, dramatic, and often infused with humour, making performances accessible to both new audiences and seasoned ballet enthusiasts.
