Coming off of a successful run during The Improv Centre’s 2025 season, you’re invited to sit in the studio audience of an entirely improvised holiday special – ‘Tis the Sitcom!
In this improvised comedy show, a close-knit bunch of pals take on big city life, festive mishaps, and seasonal surprises – all in classic sitcom style. With commercial breaks, fall-out-of-your-seat laughs, and plenty of nostalgic sitcom tropes, audiences will be transported to the living rooms of years’ past, to watch a hilarious holiday episode of TV.
This show is created LIVE – there are no reruns here¬! The Improv Centre’s cast builds a brand-new, never before seen holiday special on stage, using audience suggestions to inspire plot-points and character quirks that you can only see once. Your ideas get right in the action and make the show as fun as it can be!
Whether you grew up with must-see TV or you’ve been bingeing whole seasons on streamers, this is one laugh-inducing sitcom special you won’t want to miss.
Originally staged during The Improv Centre’s festive season in 2025, ‘Tis the Sitcom is a format created by Jacki Gunn. Originally produced by The Improv Centre; lead by Artistic Director, Jalen Saip; Artistic Director, Alan Pavlakovic; and Technical Director, Brendan Kelly.
ABOUT THE COMPANY
For 45 years, The Improv Centre has been making the world laugh. Founded in 1981 as The Vancouver TheatreSports League, it has launched the careers of comedy legends like Colin Mochrie and Ryan Stiles. Today, audiences enjoy their improvised shows from the scenic heart of Vancouver’s premier tourism destination, Granville Island.
A cornerstone of Vancouver’s comedy scene, The Improv Centre’s ensemble cast performs shows all week long – each one completely improvised and never the same twice. Drawing inspiration from audience suggestions, professional improvisers create everything in the moment, from fast-paced sketches to clever long-form stories. With themed shows, holiday productions, and interactive performances, every show is fresh, unpredictable, and hilarious.
The Improv Centre is Vancouver’s main hub for improv education. Through classes and workshops for all levels, anyone can step into the spotlight and discover the joy of spontaneous storytelling.
As a not-for-profit organization, The Improv Centre is committed to giving back. They offer subsidized tickets and scholarships for marginalized and low-income communities, as well as BIPOC- and LGBTQ+-inclusive classes. Their programs make improv accessible, welcoming, and empowering for everyone.
